Innsbruck is a must visit city in Austria. Surrounded by the Austrian Alps, it is a charming mountain town with beautiful and colorful scenery. I had a chance to visit a couple months ago on my epic Eurotrip and I definitely want to go back in the winter & summer.
The Nordkette Cable Car Experience
Our perfect day in Innsbruck started with incredible mountains views from the Nordkette Cable Car. We bought tickets for the Top of Innsbruck round trip experience and I highly recommend this option. Our journey began at Conress station in Innsbruck, from which we took a train to the cable cars. The cable cars have multiple stops until they reach the very top, the Hafelekar point. We stopped at Seegrube and had coffee and lunch there with absolutely epic views.
At top of Hafelekar, we walked to the highest point of the Nordkette, which was about a 15 minute walk from the Hafelekar station. Note, I had no idea we would be doing any kind of mountain walking so I was not prepared and wore heeled booties! I had to be extra careful while walking but managed to stay safe 🙂
The panorama of the city and mountains along the whole journey were absolutely breathtaking. The whole experience took about 4 hours but it my opinion it is a can’t miss attraction in Innsbruck if you only have one day.
Old Town, Innsbruck
After the amazing Nordkette Cable Car experience, we explored Old Town Innsbruck. The city’s Old Town is surrounded by beautiful medieval buildings with colorful facades and even a Golden Roof. The Goldenes Dachl, or the Golden Roof, is one of the top tourist attractions in Innsbruck. The famous landmark roof is decorated with beautiful copper tiles and it is quite a sight to see.
There is also so many cute restaurants, cafe and shops in Old Town. It was so fun strolling around this area of the city. It’s just so beautiful.
Postcard from Innsbruck
After exploring Old Town, we walked over by the river to see the famous colorful River Houses. It is a postcard perfect spot from Innsbruck. The colorful houses look so pretty against the Austrian Alps. You must go here if you only have one day in Innsbruck.
We ended our day at a beautiful scenic park and then headed to dinner outside of the city next to our hotel. For those of you interested, we stayed at an apartment in Mieders, Austria and it was absolutely perfect. Mieders is a small village surrounded by the Alps and so picturesque.
Let me know if you have any questions about Innsbruck or my Eurotrip! This was one of my favorite days of the trip and it really was the perfect day in Innsbruck. I am happy to answer any questions and have a ton of good recommendations!
